OH MY GOD!!!
I have read a lot of good reviews and positive comments about the work by John Green, and definitely I knew that I had to read it at some moment. And now, I am able to confirm by myself how good is the work of John Green as a marvellous storyteller.
Initially I thought of reading the books in chronological order of publishing while I knew that each novel was stand-alone and I could read them in any order. However, since I found out that this novel will be adapted into a film in th ...more

A book that I "borrowed"from the missus and daughter who are both in "love" with this read. And after finishing it I did understand its lure. It is a sad and humorous read that will be remembered easily. And for us Dutchies it has some extra interest as it takes place in the Netherlands as well, even if it is Amsterdam. I was surprised by the Amsterdam location and its absence of the usual decor for which I can only admire the writer.

Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel's story is about to be completely rewritten.

“I'm in love with you," he said quietly.
"Augustus," I said.
"I am," he said. He was staring at me, and I could see the corners of his eyes crinkling. "I'm in love with you, and I'm not in ...more

I'm going to admit it right now: I did not want to read this book. Two teenagers that have cancer? It's going to be heartbreaking and sad, right? WRONG.
These teenagers are strong, yet aren't afraid to be seen as weak. Cancer is not glamorous, there is rarely a child who has cancer who is wiser beyond their years and full of wisdom. Cancer is scary, and without saying it, Green shows us what these people and those around them go through.
And it's funny. I mean it. It's witty and funny, and it does ...more

I don't enjoy YA and generally despise teenagers for all their glorious drama while the rest of us plod along.
And really, cancer kids?! I'm not a fan of tearjerkers either.
Yet somehow, I really enjoyed this and find myself not packed, and none of my to do list ticked. In fact, why am I not asleep?! It's way past my bedtime and I've been up reading... ...more

I would actually like to give this 4.5 stars. I loved it and would so highly recommend it. It's emotional, it's real, it's not at all what you would expect from a book about a teenager with cancer. I was amazed at how well the author, a male, wrote from a 17-year-old girl's point of view. My only complaint was that things weren't tied up as nicely as I like at the end. I think it metaphorically represented that we don't have all the answers. And I guess in that way it was handled artistically, b

I liked this one a lot. I get why the characters felt the way they did about death and facing death, I just felt like there was a... how do I put this... lack of understanding about the role of comfort religion can bring a person facing death when a person believes. I get that sometimes, people don't always believe, and I get that. Otherwise, the characters were rich, the storyline was deep, and the message about making choices was clear. That's the hardest part about growing up; facing the deci

I will start this by saying that since working in a high school library, after a few years of getting completely away from young adult, I avoided this book like the plague. It seemed to be the book that every high school students wanted to read so they could get the points for it and move on with their lives. So, two years later, when my cousin recommends it, I broke down and jumped into it. I definitely could have read it sooner.
