This reads like a travelogue and I wasn't surprised to find out that Mary Shelly was a travel writer by trade. I thought it had a lot of padding - it would have worked out better as a short story, which she intended it to be in the first place. A very moving story - everyone has experienced some sort of rejection in their lifetime. But what is not much mentioned about this novel is the Ancient Greek hubris - be careful of what you seek to know, sometimes it is better not to know and be ignorant.

This book for read/taught to the Dual Credit Senior's this year as a combination of Metaphysical/Romantic/Gothic text, switching it out from teaching Wuthering Heights last year. I always love reading this novel. I always the surprise in the first few chapters when I remember how lush of a Romantic Era novel that Frankenstein is. How placed in the high intelligence, the swing of the grand fixation on the sublime, and the questions between God, Man, Creation, and Creator, and who has ...more

Loved, loved, loved the story! But writing styles have changed so much since this was written. I guess Shelley didn't know to "show not tell". =)
