Really, really good!
I must admit, I was kind of hesitant about the overall idea of the story and my ability to make it to the end: a boy lost at sea for 227 days! It made me think about the movie "Open Water" (about the two stranded scuba divers)...horribly painful (and boring) to watch. How would this poor kid just floating out in the ocean for that long capture my attention?

I was unsure of this book after first finishing it. I couldn't make up my mind on whether I liked it or not. The book requires deep thought to get to the story the author is trying to tell. After thinking about it long after I read it, the symbolism is amazing and I came to realize it was a book I had to read and digest over a period of time to get the full capacity of its powers.

When they say this book is hard to stop reading, even when its over, they are right! There are portions when the tension is so high I had to consciously stop myself from racing through to the conclusion, yet I simultaneously didn't want the book to end and wanted to savor every beautiful passage. This book deserves the praise it receives. This book sticks with you, and it changes you.

Excellent book with great use of allegory. Very imaginative and thought provoking. It tends to read slow at times, but yet is captivating throughout. An important book of modern times that many people will be discussing.
