After multiple readings, I'd say it's somewhat interesting and has its good points, but I can never seem to shake the impression that its somber tone is incongruous to its silly action. It seems the Christian author somehow managed to detract from the fun and the thrill of a heathenish tale. There is some very muted humor and irony buried in there, mainly in the form of litotes (negating a negative to state a positive), and backhanded compliments. I enjoyed this Medieval tale. The prose reads well and Beowulf's story is a valiant one.
There are large passages of History, Valiand Deeds and Family stories, which sometimes seem long and, although interesting, don't add to the tale itself.
Beowulf comes to Denmark to help the Danes with a monster who is terrifying them. After killing the monster and his mother, he is given riches and returns home to live a long life and to eventually become King in his turn. In his old age, he battles a third
