This is the story of Ramatoulaye, heavy with heartbreak and writing to her close childhood friend during Islam's dictated period of mourning after the death of the husbanded who abandoned her and her children years before for a younger wife. She talks about so many things... including her choice to stay and endure the humiliation, in contrast to her friend's choice to leave in similar circumstances.
