Absolutely beautiful, even when it's brutal.
Every now and then you come across something that you've never heard of before, you give it a shot, and it turns out to be great, and you feel like you've discovered something. I feel like I rediscovered a lost classic.
It's not a lost classic, of course. People still know about this, and they know of Patrick White, even if he's not as widely read as I think a Nobel laureate probably should be. But if Moby-Dick is the Great American Novel, then this is ...more
