This is turning into my year of audiobooks. Lately I have been unable to find time to read, but I can listen to books as I do housework, and especially as I drive, and driving is what I do. My husband and I are farmers in an isolated area in the Canadian prairies. The closest town is 80 km away, and trips to various towns for machinery parts, doctor appointments, banking or groceries are part of my life. So for the past few days now I have been listening to The Grapes of Wrath as I drive throug ...more

What a terrific story! Steinbeck manages to show that through the worst of times it is not necessary to lose one's decency and humanity towards others. One can keep one's kindness despite having unkindness shown to oneself. There are good people in this World.

The dialect is pitch-perfect, the characters are beautifully fleshed out, the writing is brilliant, the themes explored are universally challenging. I can’t believe that it has taken me so long to read this classic. But, I am rather glad that I was sufficiently mature to appreciate this novel. My younger self might have missed too much. I can see me re

A must read for every Steinbeck fan. Set during the Depression, this book follows one family's struggle to survive. Although I'm not a huge fan of the ending, it serves its purpose of hope for a better future.
