This is turning into my year of audiobooks. Lately I have been unable to find time to read, but I can listen to books as I do housework, and especially as I drive, and driving is what I do. The dialect is pitch-perfect, the characters are beautifully fleshed out, the writing is brilliant, the themes explored are universally challenging. I can’t believe that it has taken me so long to read this classic. But, I am rather glad that I was sufficiently mature to appreciate this novel. My younger self might have missed too much. I can see me re ...more

A must read for every Steinbeck fan. Set during the Depression, this book follows one family's struggle to survive. Although I'm not a huge fan of the ending, it serves its purpose of hope for a better future. ...more
