This is one of Atwood's earlier published works (1983) . It is a collection of short stories. The first few fell very autobiographical, you can really get a feel for Atwood's childhood growing up in northern Ontario.

Favorites were: Significant Moments in the Life of my mother, Hurricane Hazel, and Bluebeard's Egg, mainly because the women seem so alive in them. Atwood writes about ordinary women who have an inner strength and are often misunderstood by those around them.

My favorite stories:

Significant Moments in the Life of My Mother
This felt like both a love story from a daughter to a mother and a bit of a historical fiction, showing the differences between generations. I love how Atwood wove the mothers reminisces in with the daughters comments on her mothers ways.

Hurricane Hazel
I thought this story also explored the mother daughter relationship but in a smaller way, through the daughter discussing her boyfriend. I did find it a little creepy that she was 14
