Dorothy L. Sayers is probably my favourite mystery writer from the Golden Age, and I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The setting was a rural village in the Fens and the mystery centred around the church and its bells, with a body being found in a grave in the churchyard and Lord Peter Wimsey investigating. The one about the bells...
So, people have lots of interesting and not-so-interesting hobbies. I had to watch a YouTube video about change ringing to get a very slight understanding about what was going on because before this book I honestly had no idea ringing a bell could be so damned complicated. So cheers to Sayers for not only embracing this slightly odd hobby, but making it a central part of the culture of her book. And for me, Sayers is all about the culture, even more than the mystery.
