These episodic "experiences" of a Royal Magistrate (R.M.) to Ireland around the turn of the century each contain at least one delightfully laugh-out-loud moment, whether it involves hairpins, goat milk, or a ghostly cockatoo. The male narrator, Major Yeates, self-professed coward and put-upon magistrate, is very well-realized by his female author(s).
