Well I certainly am not going to summarize the plot of this novel that has been told and retold so many times.
Austen's novel is the original romance novel where the basic premise is girl meets boy, girls dislikes boy, girl loves boy. How many times has this been done and redone. Is there in literature a more perfect romantic male character? Good looking, caring, dignified and extremely rich? Well, we know that at the beginning of the book he is not all that but, of course, it was only our misguided female eyes that could not see through his reserved demeanor. And, yes, he was not nice all the time, but it was only out of an overprotective concern for his friend.

I liked the first part and the ending. Both were humerous, warm and full of Victorian style, wit and lovable characters. However, the middle 200 pages or so were frivolous and unentertaining. Pure Victorian Fluff.

I think this was a re-read. I've watched and re-watched so many versions of this book sometimes I wonder if I ever read it and only think I did.
I still love this story. The way Austen satirizes the society of her time and how it can still be so relevant, I find highly enjoyable. ...more
