Romance set in the court of Henri II of France. The virtuous Princess de Cleves is married to a man she likes and admires, but does not love. She comes to court to serve the Queen-Dauphin and meets the dashing Duke de Nemours. The two fall passionately in love, but the Princess steadfastly resists his advances despite the pressures from all around.
