This novel is written with a supernatural attention to detail. It's as if Crummey has taken it upon himself to inhabit the interior spaces of the brother and sister that he conjures up from his imagination. He inhabits their daily lives. He channels them onto the page for us, until I could see and feel what these characters see and feel. Once again Crummey delivers a hauntingly beautiful story. Not my most favorite of his (Sweetland takes that prize) but I loved his depiction of the solitary lives of this brother and sister.

I finished approximately 50 pages before skimming ahead and reading the end.

I could not be interested in these characters, or their hum drum lives, or their isolation, or anything else.
