Story review
Harry is still very much an island within his own department, which, given the players, is a very good thing. Ethical lines keep moving in the wrong direction and he's not in that club. Despite obstacles presented by his own department, Harry pursues this case involving a murdered cop when others were ready to classify it as a suicide. He's got great instincts and needed all of them with this one as the bad guys weren't always outside of law enforcement.

The second book in the Harry Bosch series continues to establish it as a fine example of detective fiction. It is smart, suspenseful, and Harry makes for a complex yet relatable protagonist. My only quibble with Harry hinges on his romantic decisions. In that arena I seriously question his judgment, lol.

On Christmas day, Homicide Detective Harry Bosch learns of the apparent suicide of Narcotics officer Cal Moore. Headquarters want the investigation closed quickly and puts Harry on some other unsolved cases to keep him out of the way. But soon those cases are leading Harry to a string of murders, including an unidentified Hispanic male. As Harry tries to learn the identity of the victim, he finds ties to a synthetic drug called "Black Ice". This is the drug that Cal Moore was investigating at th

When the apparent suicide of narcotics officer, Cal Moore, is linked to two of his unsolved homicide cases, Detective Harry Bosch’s investigation leads him on a dark and twisted path that places him, not only in the middle of a complex web of lies and deceit, but within the crosshairs of one of Mexico’s most notorious drug kingpins. With numerous players intent on hindering his progress, Harry’s stalwart determination might get him through or it might get him killed.

THE BLACK ICE by Michael Connelly was a GREAT book. I loved every minute of this one. Harry is not your normal police detective, or at least for me he isn't. He normally works by himself and really seems to like that. He does like women and they do seem to like him, but I feel sad at times because he appears to be such a loner but still needs that closeness too.

The second Harry Bosch book was a very good read. We learned a lot more about Harry's background which was very interesting. The book also had a great plot with lots of twists and turns and kept me interested until the very end. Looking forward to reading the next installment of the series.

This was a book of two halves, it took some while to get going and really engage me, but the second half fully engaged me and kept me wanting to read on. The latter part of the book was full of action and was more like a thriller than a crime book. We learnt quite a bit more about Harry Bosch in this book. Quite a surprise ending. Overall I will rate this four stars on balance. I look forward to continuing this series.

It didn't really take me this long to read...I started in Feb and set down. Haha!
