Late one evening, Maura Isles is closing up the morgue and hears a noise in the cold room, the locker area where the bodies are stored. She locates the unit that’s the source of the noise and the eyes of the woman suddenly open, obviously not a corpse. Maura gets her admitted into the hospital’s emergency department but soon word gets out about the woman’s circumstances. Meanwhile, Jane Rizzoli has finally gone into labor and is admitted in the hospital. When she’s sent to the imaging area for a

This was the second time I've read this book and my opinion is the same as it was so many years ago. A good installment to the series but not my favorite.
The Good: The suspense was so realistic with Gabriel's emotional journey while Jane was trapped in the hospital and the final scene where Jane thought she and her baby were going to die. I liked both Maura's and Jane's input into this book where in the past books the focus was on one woman or the other. In this one it felt a little more balance ...more

I have not read Tess Gerritsen in a while and I was so surprised at how good this book was. I kept me wanting to read the next page, page after page. It was filled with suspense and even though you were pretty sure who the bad guys were, that really didn't matter in this book.
I read this one for a group read and now will have to go back to the beginning and read from the start to see how characters developed over time. I loved this book and can't wait to read the next in the series. ...more

Medical Examiner Maura Isles is shocked to find that one of the bodies in the morgue cooler isn't quite dead. The unidentified woman is rushed to the hospital to later regain consciousness and kill a security guard with his own gun. She holds six hostages in the hospital's Diagnostic Imagine Department, including a very pregnant Detective Jane Rizzoli who has just gone into labor. Soon Maura has joined forces with Jane's husband, FBI agent Gabriel Dean, to track down the killer's identity.

Didn't like this as much as its predecessors; however, I'll be reading the next in the series soon.
