Unfortunately, there is nothing new or interesting in this installment. In fact, the series has stagnated Frank and Sarah have settled into married life and there is little to no character development for them or any of the secondary cast.

This is the first book in the series that is just OK for me. I enjoyed the historical elements. Victoria Thompson's attention to detail regarding the time, customs, and prejudices of the time are excellent. I always learn something.
What makes it ok is the actions and attitude of Sarah. In the previous books she is a representative of a strong women who stands for something more than her upper class position requires. For most of this book, Sarah is the person she didn't want to be. When she crit ...more
