I’m loathe to share too much of the story as this one has one of the best opening chapters I’ve read in some time. It begins seventeen years earlier in the Scottish Highlands when eight-year-old Farah meets eleven-y ...more

Oh how I loved this story! Dark, gritty, raw and yet oh so beautiful! Great character & relationship development with a deeply developed plotline. All in all, an amazing read! I can't wait to continue this series!

When Criminal Mastermind Dorian Blackwell, the Blackheart of Ben More, is brought into Scotland Yard for questioning, he discovers a clerk, Mrs. Farah MacKenzie, is the woman he has been searching for the past decade. Dorian makes a lasting impression on Farah. There is just something about him that is unforgettable, especially when he shows up in her apartment in the middle of the night and whisks her off to his home in the Scottish Highlands.

This is my second book by Kerrigan Byrne and it's a different genre, my first book by her was RS. Though I love the writing style of both of them.
This book started off with one of the sweetest prologue I've ever read. It introduced us to young Dougan Mackenzie and Farah Townsend, who are both at an orphanage. They found each other and sweet love bloomed. But Dorian was taken away when he tried to protect Farah from harm and indignity.

Well written, evocative, moody and not at all like most Historical Romance being written by Eloisa James or Tessa Dare or Julia Quinn. Deep, really much deeper than I would normally care to experience, even through a book. The subjects are timeless and the outcome proves that, in the end, pure love can conqueror all.
Farah Leigh Mackenzie claims herself a widow, even though the marriage that took place when she was ten wasn't quite legal and was never consummated. For seventeen years she has been ...more

The Highwayman
4 Stars
A captivating historical romance, but readers expecting a lighter fare in the vein of Sarah MacLean and Tessa Dare may be disappointed as The Highwayman presents a more realistic, i.e. darker and grittier view of Victorian society in general, and the treatment of children in particular.
The plot grabs the reader from the opening pages and doesn't let go until the very end. Farah and Dorian are immensely appealing characters, and their romance is intense and erotic. Although ...more

Inkvotary
Be warned. There are some very hot scenes in it. And with hot I mean HOT.
Farah is a little girl when she meets for the very first time Dougan and knows instinctively that he is the one. They give each other comfort and ease the loneliness and cruelty they experience in the orphanage. But life gets even worse when Dougan tries to protect her from a priest and gets hit. From that moment on, Farah´s life changes dramatically.
Unlike the title this is everything but a kitschy romance novel. ...more

New to me author...I've heard lots of good things, though, and this book proved those "things" right! Great writing and a good level of steam. I love historical romance, but I get tired of the privileged and their ton...this one gave me something different. Will definitely be following this series.
