Amazing first intallment to the "Falling Kingdoms" series, I can't wait to pick up the next book. Love, magic, danger, villains and gorgeous protagonists, all together create a mosaic of perfection! Well done, Morgan Rhodes, you made us fall in love with everything in this fictional world!

This is ASoIaF for YA and I loved it so much. It had so much intrigue and was clearly well thought out. I was loving every second of it...ish. I liked the pacing, I thought that enough time had passed between point of views that it made sense while still ensuring that the reader knew what was happening. I liked that time passage was done by switching povs because it didn't feel like it was dragging then.

3.5/5 stars - I loved the concept, liked some of the characters, enjoyed the overall ride, but wasn’t quite so sure about the writing. Full review below:

The best word to describe this book, along with the writing, the plot and most of its characters, is cringe-worthy. I lost count of how many fantasy tropes I read. Honestly, who can stand lines like "Only Lucia had ever been able to see the real him" and "This was not a chaste kiss of friendship"? I can usually cope with a fair amount of this type of thing, but when you're rolling your eyes for pretty much the entire duration of a book, it's a sign that the writing is not that great.

This book took a while for me to finish. I wonder if it was because I read it on my nook and I was kind of tired of my nook. But I really enjoyed the story and the characters. I cared about each and everyone of them and their development. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens in the next book.
