This was such a fun read! I have had my eye on this series for quite some time and finally got around to buying it. I thought that this book was a really solid first installment to a series - I got a good sense of the world, great establishment of characters, and a enticing plot that sets up potential drama for later books.

The writing was an absolute blast. Carriger's style of prose fits this genre of book exceptionally well and her dialogue seemed natural and suited to the time period. I laugh

Actual rating 3.75 stars I really had a blast reading this book. The writing was hilarious I liked all the characters and everything gets tied up by the end. Even though it's part of a 5 book series. My only issues where I wish the chapters where somewhat shorter. I like the length of the book but shorter chapters so better designed for breaks for people that don't like to stop reading in the middle of a chapter. I will definitely be picking up the rest of the series. ...more

And of course I was intrigued by the character of Lord Ma ...more

I love this book for all that it has to offer. Vampires, werewolves, mad-scientists, automatons, Victorian sensibilities and Alexia. The only things that I found aggravating in the least about this book were Alexia self-deprecation in regard to her looks and her family in general.
This book was amusing without being trite. I found it hard to tear myself away from the story; to the point that I lost sleep. I can't wait to read or listen to the next book. Emily Grey's narration was a delight. He

Great book! I loved the snarky humor and of course werewolves and vampires. Good fun read. I will definitely read the rest of the series.
