This is a reread. I initially read The Book Thief about a decade ago; it has stayed with me ever since. This is an amazing story, I dare say one of the best written. I measure a book by how it makes you feel, not just the writer's prose and this story is full of feeling.

Hands down one of the best books I've read in a long time.
This book takes place in Nazi Germany, and it follows a girl named Liesel and all the life struggles she goes though during that time. We get to see her family dynamic, her relationships with Max and Rudy and her fueling hatred for the Fuhrer (Hitler).
I felt like I could relate to Liesel because of her innocence and that she uses reading as a tool to get through tough times. Also, I envy her because of her strong relationship with her fa ...more

I really liked this book. It's narrated by Death and takes place during WWII. I've been reading very slowly the last year (not sure why, just haven't wanted to consume my time with reading) but this book is worth the time. I absolutely fell in love with Rudy, and I liked the main character Liesel. A poignant quote in the book by Death comes at the end when he wanted to ask Liesel "...how the same thing could be so ugly and so glorious, and its words and stories so damning and brilliant."
