I read this with goodreads group Read with Friends. It's a middle grade book but great for any age. The story is told by Ivan who is the gorilla. It is written in a verse like format so it is quick to read. The story is about Ivan who is trapped in a cage at the mall. He has other animals who are his friends. Great story about friendship, bravery and hope.

4.5 stars. The cutest story
This book was absolutely beautiful! I loved it!! This is definitely one of my favorite children’s books of all time! I loved everything about it! The character development is so perfect. You care so much about every character and just want a better life for all of them. My son and I cried several times in the story. I also enjoyed the writing! The writing was so unique and well crafted. I felt like I was right in the moment with each of the characters. I cannot wait to read more from this author

Middle grade but a sweet story second story this year of a book told through the eyes of an animal.
