★★★✩✩ I guess I’m in the minority on this one. Lots of my GoodReads friends that I am so often in synch with loved this one. I couldn’t get past a couple of things. Still, I’m willing to give this author another try. I’ve just requested the next book in the series from the library instead of purchasing it this time. Well, when I started this book I didn't think I would finish it but glad I stuck it out. Thank you Britney for sticking it out with me LOL.

3.5 stars. There is something familiar about this story, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I'm a fan of the early KGI books, and this feels even more coherent than those books.

I am not a big fan of historical romances, but I do love this author so I decided to give this one a try and am glad that I did as I really liked this book. While so many of these things that happened were predictable, I found myself loving the characters, especially Mairin and Crispin.

There is something to be said when the narrator takes a novel to a higher level. I really enjoyed the story and narration by Kristen Potter.
The bad guy was SO BAD! EEEEK!!! Must read the next book in the trilogy!
