The first book in the Molly Murphy Mysteries introduces young Molly Murphy who has to flee Ireland after causing a gentry man who assaulted her to die. Fearing that she'll be tried for murder, she runs to England with just a few coins in her pocket and no future plans.

Molly meets Kathleen O'Connor and her two young children and agrees to escort the children to America to join their father. Katleen is dying of consumption and knows she'll be turned back at Ellis Island. But to successfully manage ...more

Shelves: mystery, 2002

Molly Murphy flees for her life from her native Ireland and winds up on Ellis Island for the opening day in 1901. The luck of the Irish evades her, however, when someone dies while they are on the island and Molly stands accused of the crime. The set up, while necessary, slows the beginning down. However this is still a good series opener to a character I now love.

I'm not a fan... sorrynotsorry ..
Thankfully a library find otherwise I think I'd be raging *yeah a tad dramatic* its frustrating as it has potential.Murder seems to follow Molly whereever she goes and not in the entertaining way, I didn't like or dislike her (I didn't really feel much about her). It takes FOREVER to get to the WHO DUNNIT part that I lost interest.
