Coffee dates with What You Need

First date: I was both curious and nervous about meeting the Lund’s. Especially Brady Lund, when I heard he was so freakin’ hot. I worried he would be one of the pretentious snobs. James delivered a nerdy hero who is socially awkward, a little damaged and a whole lotta sexy! I adored Brady. He is confident in the boardroom and shy around the ladies. He is intrigued by Lennox Green when he hears her laughing and it takes him ten months to learn her name! Ten Mont Coffee dates with What You Need

First date: I was both curious and nervous about meeting the Lund’s. Especially Brady Lund, when I heard he was so freakin’ hot. I worried he would be one of the pretentious snobs. James delivered a nerdy hero who is socially awkward, a little damaged and a whole lotta sexy! I adored Brady. He is confident in the boardroom and shy around the ladies. He is intrigued by Lennox Green when he hears her laughing and it takes him ten months to learn her name! Ten Months! A family intervention and Lennox soon have him taking chances and the ride was sweet, funny and adorkable.
Second date: We meet some of the Lund family in little side threads that worked wonderfully as our couple kept bumping into each other. James provided depth and interesting side stories from troubled youth in the city to family dynamics and interventions. Lennox is a true gem. Her childhood was horrible, and she spent her teens as a runaway. She is one of the lucky ones, who got her life on track and put herself through school. At work, she is very prim and proper, hiding her tats and removing her piercings but that does not hide her outspokenness. The interaction and banter between Lennox and Brady was hilarious and laced with sexual tension. This was a slow building romance and the buildup was delicious. James created scenes without intimacy that were smoking hot and heart-thumping.
Third date: Our couple finally tango between the sheets and it was worth the wait. However, both characters experience some growing pains as they navigate their relationship towards our. Brady shows tremendous growth finding balance between career and life outside the office. I really enjoyed this couple and appreciated that the growth came from within and the drama was quickly diffused. Their story wraps up nicely and realistically. James brought depth, humor, family and a realistic ending. I am eager to being my next coffee dates with this series and hope for updates on this couple.

What You Need is the first title in Ms. James’ new contemporary romance series which focuses on the Lunds, a highly successful and very wealthy, multi-generational family. Brady Lund, workaholic CFO for their multibillion dollar corporation, is crazy for the beautiful woman he’s seen from afar in the halls of Lund Industries. After ten months of watching her without approaching her, he’s finally put in a situation to meet Lennox.

Lennox loves her job as a floating admin for Lund Industries, but s What You Need is the first title in Ms. James’ new contemporary romance series which focuses on the Lunds, a highly successful and very wealthy, multi-generational family. Brady Lund, workaholic CFO for their multibillion dollar corporation, is crazy for the beautiful woman he’s seen from afar in the halls of Lund Industries. After ten months of watching her without approaching her, he’s finally put in a situation to meet Lennox.

Lennox loves her job as a floating admin for Lund Industries, but she feels conflicted. There is also the tattooed and pierced part of her that misses her blue collar friends, but she does not miss being around her neglectful mother. When she starts to realize that there may be more to Brady than meets the eye, she decides to give him a chance.

What You Need is an extremely enjoyable, easy-going romance. Although there are the occasional misunderstandings that made me want to scream, the author is quick to address them rather than allow problems to linger. Kudos to that! The romance between Brady and Lennox is pretty smooth sailing and filled with passionate flames. With its Pretty Woman vibes, the story focuses on breaking down stereotypes and learning to love oneself, as well as others.

Brady and Lennox make the perfect “opposites attract” couple. I admire that they are put into situations which allow each to see the other as more than a co-worker from the office.Not that their work personas aren’t real, but rather each character is a complex, multi-faceted individual that doesn't fit neatly into a stereotype. I adore Brady's geekiness and lack of confidence. I love that Lennox isn't sure of exactly where she fits in. They are giddy and cute. And what makes the story work is how honest they really are with one another. It helps them learn more about themselves.

Overall, What You Need is a sexy, joyful romance with easily likable characters. While the story is somewhat idyllic, it’s okay and even enjoyable to escape into Brady and Lennox’s happiness. What You Need is the perfect story to read all cuddled up on the couch with a cup of hot cocoa on a cold winter day. It warmed me up from the inside out.

Shelves: contemporary-caucasian-mf, did-not-finish, audiobooks, trite-cliche

DNF at 64%.

Boring and cliche af. Kept waiting for a story line. Spoiler: none appeared. I’m out.

Also, I wonder if the narrators were as bored as I was because they kept adding drama to their voices and inflections when there was absolutely nothing significant nor deep about that they were reading.

I was really excited to read this one, I like the author, it was a new series and set in the city I live in, always a bonus, but I can't believe that I'm dnf'ing. I didn't care for either Brady or Lennox. Brady was beyond bland, while Lennox was very judgmental. It didn't help that Brady's family was a bit odd. In the end this one just wasn't for me.

Side note - Dayton's hasn't been in Minneapolis for over a decade. If you're trying to make things seem real, that is a biggie. ...more
