This was a really good story. I enjoyed the heroine Reece and the hero Brody. I got the audiobook version and I thought the narrator did a decent job telling the story.
Reece is a trained chef who survived a horrible attack and had many mental issues she dealt with afterward which after such an event is understandable.
Brody is a writer that has lived in the town after he quit a newspaper job and has become a novelist. He is blunt, a loner and observant. He doesn't coddle but does care when he le ...more

Five full stars! ★★★★★ I love books about chefs! Whether they are romances or mysteries; I just love the culinary theme (guess this explains my fascination with the Food Network!). Put the three together, and Wow! I’ve never been a huge Nora Roberts fan (though I do like her writing as J.D. Robb); nevertheless, I’ve picked up one or two of her books over the years and enjoyed them.
However, I’ve always liked Heather Locklear (I swear my sister-in-law could be her twin). Ms. Locklear starred i ...more

Engaging. Kept me listening and kept me company through laundry, etc.
I was in the mood for suspense and this hit the spot. What I particularly liked or found satisfying and compelling was the illustration of gaslighting and the fight against such. Nora nailed that aspect. And the power of believing self in the face of everyone else’s disbelief was powerful and portrayed well.
I’m glad I wasn’t counting on this for romance primarily because I think Roberts thought rural, middle America and de ...more

What a sweet sense of relief! This is Nora Roberts at her best. I was starting to become very jaded in my latest reading choices, but this one put it all back into perspective. I remember why I love reading so much!!

Oh, this one was interesting!
Reece Gilmore and Brody. Okay, so Reece is a chef who was the only survivor of a slaughter of everyone who worked at the restaurant she cooked at. She was shot in the chest but survived. The people from the restaurant were her family and she's has a mental breakdown, really, and is just sort of drifting. She's not on the run. The people who did the killing know she can't ID them (and she doesn't). One day her car breaks down and she runs out of money in Angel's Fist, ...more
