Caffeinated Aspects

I loved how the story began and liked Lily’s voice from the onset.
Ryle and Lily share a slow-building relationship and I enjoyed the banter.
Despite what you may think, there is no love triangle or cheating.
Hoover used journal entries written by Lily to a celebrity as a young teen. I loved the references to a character they portrayed. It allowed me to understand Lily and her relationship to Atlas.

Review - (un)Conventional Bookviews

It Ends With Us is a very strong and necessary story. It deals with some pretty heavy subject matters, and I have actually already used it as an example of something important with a young woman I know... Lily Bloom is a very strong woman, and she has built so many walls around herself and her heart that she might have been completely impenetrable, but she wasn't. The story itself starts with some chance encounters, and it has one part of the action happening in the present, and another part in the past, where Lily reads through her old journals to try to make peace with her past and the people in it.

Having empathy and understanding for other people and their problems is something I think is really important. And It Ends With Us truly made me walk a few miles in someone else's shoes, and it definitely put some things in perspective for me. I had some pre-conceived notions about some kinds of relationships, and I really don't think I do anymore - so kudos to CoHo for managing to really make me see things from a different point of view.

Most of the story in It Ends With Us is from Lily's point of view, and as I said above, there are parts set in the present and other parts set in the past. There is definitely a lot of heartache, but I didn't feel completely overwhelmed by sadness until the end. The range of emotions I felt was complete, though, and I think this is one of CoHo's strong suits. She manages to so fully make me believe in her characters, that seem so real because they're flawed, that I immediately want their life to be the best it can be. If you haven't picked up this book yet, you should just put down everything you're doing right now and go grab it! And start reading it!

My Review: It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover is book 1 in the series of the same name.

About the Book: An emotional story about navigating the hardships of life, all encompassing love, broken dreams, and new beginnings.

My Final Say: This was an extremely sweet yet volatile general fiction romance. There were definite triggers that made this a challenging read. The takeaway message was about being brave and bold.

I found my feelings running all over the place with this one. I liked Lily, loved her first meeting and was so rooting for her and Ryle to make it. It sort of annoyed me when their first meeting ended with nothing, that it was months later before anything else and much later for anything real to happen.

I started out to be disappointed with the diary readings to Elle I really like this author, but this book really got buzz, I kept hearing how great it was without being spoiled, a very good thing!

I found my feelings running all over the place with this one. I liked Lily, loved her first meeting and was so rooting for her and Ryle to make it. It sort of annoyed me when their first meeting ended with nothing, that it was months later before anything else and much later for anything real to happen.

I started out to be disappointed with the diary readings to Ellen. While I liked Atlas, it was Ryle that held my attention, Atlas was the past. But slowly I found myself looking forward to hearing Lily tell Ellen what she was up to, to want things to not happen how they did.

I was stunned when the first explosion happened, yet could see that maybe it really was an accident. More reactionary, not a conscious choice, something that surprised me as I don't condone that and in fact thought like Lily and have felt that should I ever find myself in the same situation it would be a one and done type of thing.

It was only as the story evolved that I finally saw a point of view that I never did. A lot of that had to do with the conversation that Lily had with her mother. I found she explained things in a way that made me see why women stay, why it all seemed ok, which made me feel sad on so many levels.

I loved that when Lily needed help she was able to reach out to someone who she helped in her past, that she wasn't judged, that she had a safe place. I so wanted more, but neither would have been ready at that point. I was glad when Lily told her BFF what happened and loved the response that she had, as someone who had a vested interested on a couple of levels.

Lily's choice at the end at a pivotal time made me cry. I thought it was the right choice, but it was also the end of a love story. With how Lily explained things Ryle could see that while it was breaking his heart, he had to agree with her.

Lily's final run and to reveal a special name made me smile. With those last few words I knew there was a chance for all parties involved in this one. ...more

This was a very emotionally intense read. I came into it without knowing what it was about except that it would hurt. And it did.

I thought that the author tackled the subject matter very well, which is not entirely surprising because of her note at the end of the book and the fact that it is something she's had some experience with. This book was powerful. It started off subtle but had a slow burn to it. I really didn't know a lot about it going in except that it was supposed to be good. It definitely was and it was heavy. It dealt with domestic violence and abuse in a way that at times made you really have to consider the situation and try to see things through Lily's eyes as she herself did.
