4.5 "The Lost Boys" Stars and 5 Stars for the narration!

What an intriguing start to a new romantic suspense series! I'm hooked and can't wait to hear the story, including the romantic HEA for each and every one of these Lost Boys. Moreover, Karen White's talented narration makes this a must listen!

Ryker met Zara Remington a paralegal while working a case for her law firm. The two began a no-strings attached relationship. When business brings Ryker to town, they hook up for a night of passion. The relationship has slowly evolved into uncharted territory but it is like a huge elephant in the room neither mentions. That is until Ryker finds a bruise on Zara’s check. Ryker is all alpha, and protects what he deems his. Poor Zara she wants uncomplicated as she juggles the complications in her life..but Ryker is having non of that. Bwahaha.

As Ryker tries to decide what kind of trouble Zara is in, he and his brothers get an unusually case that has ties to their own past. The tale that unfolds brings us twists, climactic action scenes and plenty of surprises that will keep you flipping the pages. The Lost Bastards client is someone ya’ll are going to love. I wanted to hug them and kiss them even as their back-story made me mad at the storyline villains. This character stole every scene and I loved it.

Zanetti managed to give the story balance despite the multiple threads. Some threads wrapped up and others were left unanswered as part of the overall series ARC. She did so while introducing us to these brothers and deliver a hot, smexy romance filled with heat and heart. The romance had a little push and pull as these two dealt with Ryker's need to protect and Zara's fears of commitment but their feelings were genuine. I liked the back and forth banter between them. Zara was a surprising kick-ass.

If you have read the Sin Brothers you are familiar with what makes these brothers different, but Zanetti gave them their own unique story, and these boys are very special. Despite not having read the previous series, I was not at all lost. Drooling to begin Sin Brothers, yes but lost nope. Characters from the series Sin Brothers appear and I think fans will enjoy the bit of crossover. It isn't necessary to have read the books but trust me you'll want to.

The pace is turbo speed and the action is unrelenting. Deadly Silence is the first book in Ms. Zanetti’s new spinoff series, Blood Brothers. Blood Brothers continues the story arc that began in the Sin Brothers books in which Dr. Isobel Madison is on a quest to create the perfect super soldiers through genetic manipulation. We learn at the end of Sin Brothers that Matt, Nate, Shane and Rory are not the only boys created by Dr. Madison. Ryker, and his two brothers-by-choice, Heath, and Denver Jones run the Lost Bastards Private Investigations agency. They meet as youngsters in an abusive home for boys. They run away but are being chased both by the town’s sheriff and Dr. Isobel Madison. These boys know they have unique enhancements, but they do not know why. They use their capabilities to help find people who are lost and while also seeking to find their own families.

The story begins with Zara and Ryker having a torrid affair. Their romance is smoking hot. She barely knows him, but like moth to the flame, she cannot help herself. She is the good girl taking a walk on the wild side. I love the idea of mild mannered Zara buying red lingerie and complaining about her uncomfortable thong. She is basically having sex with a stranger she meets at work, but she is also clear in her mind about the nature of their relationship. This is an affair. She even tries several times to break up with him when he gets too bossy. Ironically, it is commitment-phobe Ryder who keeps pushing for more. No one is as surprised as Ryder when he feels compelled to keep and protect Zara. Yes, she is the nicest, kindest woman he knows, but given what he is into and up against, it is safer to let her go.

Along with the romance, Rebecca Zanetti gives us three mysteries: 1. A serial killer is targeting red headed women from law enforcement families 2. Zara friend, Julie, is in the middle of a contentious divorce when she is murdered while in hiding from her abusive husband 3. Cruella DeVille (aka Dr. Madison) is back.

As a fan of this author’s proceeding series, I am drawn to and invested in the Dr. Madison, evil scientist story. It is delicious and I find myself rubbing my hands together in anticipation of what is next. Without revealing any spoilers, there is a very strong connection made between the two series through special appearances. However, as a reviewer, I have to take a step back and critique this narrative on its own merits. I loved the ending. It satisfies the fangirl in me, but it also occurs to me that it is an ending to only one storyline. The other two mysteries feel underdeveloped. We are left dangling with the serial killer thread. An FBI agent is missing and supposedly being held captive, but we do not know her fate. I trust that the author will pick up on it later, but it feels like the story dropped off a cliff. Furthermore, during the investigation into Julie’s murder, the characters discover some very intriguing details, but we do not get to delve deeply into them. It feels like a missed opportunity. Perhaps, this is a case of too much of a good thing.

Nonetheless, make no mistake, this is a fantastic read. Rebecca Zanetti introduces us to a new set of genetically enhanced super men who live to protect, love deeply, and get into a whole mess of trouble. Dr. Madison is a slippery villain and will no doubt continue threaten our heroes.

Deadly Silence was packed with action, danger and romance, and I couldn't set the book down until I had finished reading! This series is even more fast paced than the Sin Brothers series, and that's saying something.

I started listening to both Rebecca Zanetti and Karen White with the Sin Brothers series. I quickly fell in love with the Dean brothers, also known as the Grey Brothers because they all have grey eyes. It was a series about four brothers who were raised in a military style school. They had enhanced abilities and were taught to kill at a young age. The four books follow these boys as grown adults as they continue to fight the group that raised them and find the women of their dreams along the way. It was a great story. Imagine my excitement when I learn that there is going to be a spinoff series.

While the Sin Brothers followed the boys raised in a military school, Blood Brothers follows three boys who were raised in a foster home. They are not related and each came to the boys home in a different way. They quickly form a bond. They decide to become blood brothers, as their love is just as much as those brothers who are biologically related. They are now adults and running an investigation agency. They mostly find lost people. Since they are on the search for the sheriff that treated them so poorly as children, they thought it sounds like a business that will allow them to search without raising red flags.

Zara Remington is a paralegal for a legal firm in Cisco, Wyoming. She’s on a tough case. A good friend of hers is getting a divorce and it is an ugly one. Add to the fact that the man she is divorcing is the mayor of the town and things get tricky. Zara breaks her legal ethics to help her friend and things go from bad to worse.

Ryker Jones has been seeing Zara for a while at the start of this book. It isn’t really dating, more like just the occasional sex thing, when he is in town. They both like it that way. But as things around Zara get more dicey, Ryker and The Lost Bastards Investigative Agency step into help her out and to keep her safe. Ryker, along with his blood brothers Heath and Denver, have great abilities to help keep Zara safe.

There is also Greg, another kid that was raised at the compound. He’s looking for his brothers and wants The Lost Bastards Investigative Agency to help him find them. He wants them to find the good doctor from the Sin Brother books. Oh, and the Dean brothers make an appearance. It was great to see them again.

This story takes place chronologically after the Sin Brothers books. You could start here if you want. This is a new story, so everything is explained to you. Here’s the thing though, there are some spoilers if you start here, so you have to know that if you go back to read the Sin Brothers, you will have extra information. Also, you will figure things out quicker if you have the information from the original series. I don’t think that would lower the enjoyment of this series at all.

If you like romantic suspense, this is a very fun series, along with Sin Brothers. There are some paranormal aspects in that the men in this book are genetically enhanced and have abilities that are not available to the rest of us. Enhanced hearing, increased intelligence and other extra senses. I can’t wait for the next book. I just love the world that Zanetti has built here.

Narration
I’m so glad that they got Karen White to do this series. After listening to her narrate the Sin Brothers, it was great to have her back to take us on this journey with Blood Brothers. I like her ability to voice alpha male characters and women characters. The real unique voice in this series is the voice of the “good doctor”. She sounds exactly how I would expect a person like this woman would sound. If you haven’t tried Karen White, I highly recommend her.

I didn't realize this new series was a spin off of the Sin Brothers series until the author stated it in her note, that made me excited to read it.

I liked this new group of brothers, but their past broke my heart. I was glad that they found each other, that in the crap that was their lives, they had each other to depend on. As adults the men were much like the boys. It was funny to see Denver and Heath react to Ryker's feelings for Zara. They wanted to discount them and yet were longing for the ...more

I really enjoyed this on audio. Karen White does a good job with the pacing and making it easy to understand. It was my first story by Rebecca Zanetti. I'm looking forward to the next one Lethal Lies.

There is so much going on with the world-building, getting to know all the characters, the multiple situations and cases which have mystery, suspense and action. And there are some really horrible bad guys. All this makes it in ...more
