I've never read a book by Linwood Barclay before. No idea why it's taken me this long, but hey, better late than never. At least now that I have waited this long, I've got the second book in his Promise Falls trilogy ready to read straight after. I really enjoyed Barclay's style of writing. Although this wasn't an intense thriller, I was totally hooked right from the start all the way through. I am a fan of Linwood Barclay and was very pleased to read and review this latest novel - I did not realise it was to form part of a series but once I realised this it made sense that not all of the plots were solved at the end.

As you would expect from Linwood Barclay some excellent plotting and a book that moves along at a pace, with some unexpected twists thrown in. Certainly could not have guessed the eventual outcome of this book. Took a bit longer than usual to get going for his books but that may be because it is the first book in a trilogy. I want to see where Linwood Barclay takes this, so straight onto book 2. If you like good mysteries I would recommend this.

This book had a hard time getting started but did pick up about 1/2 way through. Since this is part of a trilogy, it felt a little slow-paced as if Barclay was trying to stretch the story out over 3 books. It has plots and sub-plots which are a little bit too much for one book and it got a bit convoluted. In the end he came through, so I am looking forward to the next book in the trilogy. I've read other Barclay books, so I know he's a talented writer. Just don't let this one be the first of his ...more
