The Will Trent series , never lets up with its clever plots and personal growth for characters.  The character growth is a bit slow at times but we are seeing a snapshot of a few days to a week so that isn't unreasonable.  I just wish Will and Sara could be more settled. There is no better female thriller writer than Karin Slaughter. Her Will Trent series is the best. You need to read this series in order so that this book will be more enjoyable if you have all of the back story. Angie, Will's wife, is the center figure of the novel. We get more about Angie's past life which is very tragic. The subjects of rape and domestic abuse is also foremost in this novel and Slaughter handles these subjects in a very realistic way. This is a solid series, and it's often my go-to palate cleanser between heavier or more involved reads. Slaughter's take on the damaged-cop-with-baggage trope is unique, having a dyslexic protagonist is some great representation, she writes female characters well and diversely, and her writing is pretty tight. I also appreciate that the characters change and evolve over time and that definitely keeps the series feeling fresh. ...more
