Caffeinated dates with Maybe Someday

First date: Right away I found myself liking Syndey and loathing her best friend. We then slip back two weeks in time and I fall for a sexy musician named Ridge. The tale is told in dual perspectives one of my absolute favorites for this type of romance. I panicked at about 100 pages and actually messaged my friend to ask if something would happen because I was OUT if it did. (view spoiler) Caffeinated dates with Maybe Someday

First date: Right away I found myself liking Syndey and loathing her best friend. We then slip back two weeks in time and I fall for a sexy musician named Ridge. The tale is told in dual perspectives one of my absolute favorites for this type of romance. I panicked at about 100 pages and actually messaged my friend to ask if something would happen because I was OUT if it did. (view spoiler) She talked me down and I am glad that she did. Really, I should have known Hoover would never steer me wrong. From this point on, the rest of the world slipped away and I consumed every word without looking up.

Second date: I loved the characters. Warren, Ridge's best friend and roommate is hilarious. The dude just says it like it is. The pranks and banter are hilarious. Ridge of course made me swoon. He is a good guy with this big heart. He is a fixer and sometimes you cannot fix everything. Ridge’s other roommate whom I will refer to as “Hooter’s girl” is snarky and downright hilarious. I liked her; she was a bitch but real. The interaction between Syndey and Ridge is both magical and painful. Love is complicated and this particular complication tugged at my heartstrings. There is not unnecessary drama and it felt real. Sometimes love is messy.

Third date: I should mention music plays a huge part in this story and I loved every minute of it. I recommend you listen to the songs while reading. The original music created for Maybe Someday was done by musician Griffin Peterson. You can find it on Colleen’s website. It just added extra feels to the story. Ooo, this last date had ups and downs and feels. Hoover makes you connect and understand exactly what each character is feeling. The story felt realistic and the characters actions were genuine. I wanted to hug them all. Ironically I never felt the need to slap any of them in the back of the head instead I wanted a happy for everyone. I think Hoover did a damn fine job in sorting it all out. Maybe Someday is such a unique experience. It has to be the first book I've ever read (or really heard of) with its own soundtrack! Yes, that's right, the amazing Griffin Peterson (you know, the yummy musician who posed for the cover of Losing Hope) has written some really cool songs for this book. Not only that, but he's also performed them! And Rose and I went all the way to Portland to the release party to see him perform! Oh it was so awesome! Ok back to the book. Again, if you've read my other reviews, you know I love Colleen Hoover's writing style. It is so fun and light and I love her dialogue. Anyway I ended up doing the audio book prior to the trip because I didn't want any accidental spoilers. So even though I didn't get my copy of the book (and got it signed!) until the release party, I listened to it first. I really enjoyed the narration, and of course Zachary Webber is fun to listen to. I just wish the audio book included the songs. That would have made it so much cooler.

I really enjoyed the unique aspects of the book - Ridge and him being (ok mild spoiler here) a deaf musician, and Sydney turning out this be this great lyricist. The sessions of them working together were fun and had some amazing moments. I absolutely loved when Ridge made Sydney "feel" the music, rather than hear it. That was so cool. Though the parts where he wanted to "feel" her signing were a little awkward turtle for me heh.

I did have some issues with the infidelity aspects of the book. First of all, Sydney's boyfriend and her best friend are the worst people in the world. Ok, maybe not *the worst* but OMG! But while Sydney refused to become a Tori, well, sort of, yea. And that bothered me. I understand her part of it, especially before she knew about Ridge's girlfriend. But WTF Ridge! Especially since the girlfriend is so totally awesome about everything. I felt like her reaction was a bit unbelievable to me. She just seems too perfect. But I get it, she tends to live life to its fullest, and Ridge with his very caring but overprotective ways was holding her back. But, it still seemed too easy. So that's my only real complaint about this book. Otherwise, it is excellent, go read it, and go listen to the soundtrack! ...more

This one was messy, so messy to read. I think what made it messy was that it was easy to understand every person's point of view, you liked Ridge, Sydney, and Maggie. But with that said, did I think that Ridge and Sydney crossed lines, besides the 1 obvious time, yes. The thing is that I had a hard time faulting them. Since I really enjoyed reading Maybe Someday, I also pre-ordered the audio. So far, it's AWESOME! One male and one female narrator - yup - loving it.

Beautifully narrated, they are both very good at conveying the characters' emotions, and I enjoyed the audio more than I enjoyed the actual book.
