For readers interested in space exploration, and Mars in particular, this technical report is surprisingly accessible for the lay reader. It's scope is the definition of hazards and risks that face humans on the surface of the moon. It does not address the risks and hazards of other phases such as the transit to and from Mars, nor the entry, descent and landing phases. Nevertheless there is much to be concerned about and many risks to be mitigated or circumvented.
