This wasn't nearly as funny or nearly as engaging as the first two novels, and that may be due to the absence of the original cast of characters. However, Eskarina, the first female wizard, and her old Granny, a witch, were still entertaining and enjoyable. My only complaint is that this book seems a bit discontinuous from the previous one.

I often re-re-reread Discworld books because I've never found another fictional world that's more enjoyable to visit. The first books were great and they kept getting better as the series went on. Equal Rites is one of the earlier books, and it's the first one to feature Granny Weatherwax, although she's not quite the same character to emerge in later stories.
