A Prayer for Owen Meany might be one of my favorite books of all time. This might be at least partly due to the fact that my best friend growing up was a dwarf. While he was not small enough that we could pass him above our heads in Sunday School, and he certainly does not have a "wrecked voice", I can actually picture myself hanging out with someone like Owen. There are so many great stories in this book. It's no surprise that John Irving lists Charles Dickens as one of his major influences. Th ...more
