I read this (while living in Chicago!) at the recommendation of a coworker. I especially liked the history of the world's fair - particularly the architects and the logistical difficulty of what they were trying to achieve. The history of the serial killer was definitely sensational (in the literal sense)—though not really my favorite style as it was rather gruesome—but it was interesting to have the two stories weave together. Book club selection. Suspenseful tale of the Chicago Worlds Fair - a serial killer and the architects of the fair.
The story of this book is what earned it four stars - the writing is probably three star level. It was fascinating to learn about all the products, ideas, and people that got their start or were in some way connected to the fair in Chicago.
I liked it because it didn't read like nonfiction. But if you're into nonfiction - you might find it kind of annoying.
