Well, folks, I have a new set of books to follow. I loved the "newness" of this mystery. Set in Laos in 1976, this series featured Dr. Siri, a 72 year old man who has long been a member of the communist party. Laos is now run by communists and Dr. Siri, who assumed he would have a nice rest after his long and successful career as a doctor, is suprised and a bit dismayed to learn that he will be the coroner, Laos' only coroner. Cotterill won't replace Arnaldur Indriðason as my new favorite foreign mystery writer, but he does a pretty good job here of conveying the atmosphere of postwar Laos. ...more
