What Members Thought

Semi-spoiler alert: For a book called “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies,” I expected more, well, zombies. The book is about 80%-85% of Austen’s original text, and the zombies, ninjas, warrior Bennett sister bits were sort of few and far between. Given that this guy is making money hand over fist from the idea, I expected more original content. I don’t think I could have made it through the book if I was reading it. But as an audio book it is far more entertaining, simply because of the narrator.

Of course there are zombies, but the best part is that Lizzie Bennet, and all her sisters, are like ninjas! They have super fighting skills and Lizzie is a super-cool badass. Of course, the original story is so good that played a huge part in why I really liked this creative re-telling. About 80% of it is the original Austen wording. This version spices it up a bit and makes some classic scenes quite funny. I listened to this on audiobook and the narrator has so much enthusiasm for the story tha

This would have made a really clever short work, just using the first chapter, or perhaps a short story, integrating pieces the original novel. However, the addition of zombies was not sufficient to get me to read the entire book. First of all, I've already read Pride and Prejudice, and it was clear that there was not enough change to the plot to justify reading to know how things turned out. I'm abandoning this one because it's way too gimmicky. I giggled over the zombie stuff for about 30 pages and then it got old.

I was very skeptical about this book- I am a die hard fan of pride and prejudice and felt the "zombie thing" was a little blasphemous, but I actually made it through this book and enjoyed it. i still can't decide if it's only because I love the story so much that I looked past the zombies, or if it was just a new twist. I'm still debating between 2 and 3 stars, but for now, I'll stick with the 3.

Wow, is this book terrible. It's pretty full of itself, and the writing (by which I mean the tacked on zombie bits) is poor. It's incredibly obvious what has been added because the author just cannot grasp Austin's writing style. Avoid.

I tried and tried to make it to the end but even zombies couldn't save this snoozefest. I hope Jane Austen's fans don't beat me up for saying this, but I cannot imagine how bored I would be with the original Pride and Prejudice :(
