I stayed up late last night to finish, because I need to get going on Middlesex for one of my book clubs, tossed and turned as I dreamed about what was going to happen in Voyager and woke up to late to get to the gym (ARGH!), but it was worth it. I just don't know what to say...I LOVE THIS SERIES! There is danger, sex, love, mystery and history. I didn't know a damn thing about Scotland, the Stuarts or the Rising(s), and I know this isn't a history book, but through Claire, Jamie, Murtaugh, Jack

I curse the young lass who got me started on this series! It's worse than eating potato chips, I'm so hooked. Never have I been a fan of historical fiction but this, well it just is compelling reading. And it's wrecking havoc with my regular reading.

A good sequel. Not as good as Outlander of course, I don't think any of the books in the series can live up to the first, but it was definitely enjoyable to follow the lives of Jamie and Claire.
Some very swoon-worthy romantic bits too, lol.
The change of setting in France allowed the introduction of several new characters, my favourites were Bouton, a "wee dog" capable of assisting medical staff with diagnoses, and Fergus, a French boy Jamie finds living in a brothel and comes to employ. Fergus's ...more

Upon finishing this book, my overwhelming feeling is relief because I don't have to read it anymore. It ends on a cliffhanger but I don't care enough to continue. I did like Claire more in this book than I did in the first one, but I liked Jamie less, so it was a wash. Perhaps I know too much about the historical period to relax and enjoy the ride, or perhaps Gabaldon's style of writing isn't my thing.

This was slower for me and less enchanting than the first book but I'm pretty sure I will keep on reading for more Jamie Fraser.

Gabaldon has created some amazing characters, but yeesh, did this get draggy in the middle. I'll keep going with the series -- mostly because the ending was a crazy cliffhanger -- but I think I need a bit of a break.

I'm definitely not enjoying this as much as Outlander, but that's because I'm just not in the mood. Also, while the writing is better in this one, I find the story less engaging - maybe it's too much history, not enough action. And a little too much romance: I am not really a romance fan.

The sequel to Gabaldon's first time-travel historical romance Outlander. A woman goes back in time and has all kinds of adventures in Scotland. I especially like it when she uses any of her "modern" knowledge or gadgets to assist those she is associating with in the past.
