Donna Tartt is a genius and I love this book whole-heartedly.
And if ever there was an argument to be made for the print book and how sometimes you just need to own a certain book so you can have it on your shelf so you can see it there, be reassured of its presence, because you love it, you'll find that argument in the final pages of The Goldfinch. Ehhhhhhh . . . 2.5 stars. There were things I *loved* about this book (the masterly treatment of NYC, the reverence for the Dutch art I too adore, the moments of great family epic fiction), yet ultimately I found this another Donna Tartt book ruined by a heavy authorial hand (editing! more editing! and you seem smarter if you're not trying so hard, Donna!). Ultimately I think Dona Tartt just isn't for me and I will pass on her next book.
