I'm a runner. I've been a runner for almost 20 years. And right now my feet hurt. Because my feet hurt and because I'm a runner, everyone has asked me, have you read Born to Run? So I did.
This is really an ode to ultra running and it succeeds on that level. I once decided to run a 50 mile race. My body did not hold up the training. They are natural 'ultra' runners, covering great distances over unbelievably difficult terrain in baking temperatures, seemingly with little effort. The book relates McDougall's experiences with the Tarahumara along with lots of science and history about running. It's also a wacky
