A very readable, fun book about loving the things we love and finding other like minded people. And being happy. I don't think I'm quite the target audience - I feel it's pitched maybe to the 18-24ish age range - but it does have good reminders about internet etiquette, safety, dealing with trolls, how to go to a con, resources for cosplay, and (what I felt was most important) a chapter on feminism and intersectionality.

This is a delightful little guide for female fans of things who may need a boost of confidence to fully embrace their geeky fandoms. Advice ranges from practical tips like what to pack for your first convention to dealing with Internet trolls. Interviews with prominent female geeks, a feminist glossary and feminist resources round it out. Advice on how to be an inclusive feminist is especially timely.

New to fandom and want to get your bearings? This is the book for you. Been in fandom for more than half your life? This is not the book for you. It's a great primer on navigating fandom - its language, its locations, how to get over nerves and post the fic of your dreams, how to survive your first cons, etc. I would have appreciated it 10-15 years ago - it's pretty validating of levels of interest and knowledge. Loved it! I really enjoyed this book and I'll definitely be sharing it with my (almost) 13-year-old daughter. It covers all of the basics including all of the lingo and acronyms that go along with fangirling and what you need to know about cosplay, attending cons, etc. The interviews with well-known geeky ladies like Jill Pantozzi and Jamie Broadnax were my favorite. It's truly a fun read, even when addressing serious topics.
