I suddenly realized that I probably hadn't read this poem since high school - or college at best. Reading the Heaney translation was a wonderful experience; the story came alive, and I found myself making all kinds of connections (oh... Tolkein totally ripped THAT off, or oh... so that's where the Red Wedding in GoT comes from!). Of course, it was a bonus to read it with a medievalist in the house, too.
