This is a novel about tragedy and the way it affects our lives and our relationships with others. I truly did not like reading this book. I found it to be painful to read because of the way the characters were living their lives and the way they responded emotionally to each other. However, about 3/4 of the way through, I could feel the main character, Caelum Quirk, begin to grow somewhat emotionally and I resolved to finish the book to get the big picture. I'm very glad I made that decision bec

After reading the notes at the end of this book, I feel guilty about my negative feelings toward it... I wish I'd just read Wally Lamb's 10 pages of reflections and thank-yous and not read the 700+ pages of the book itself. I was fascinated by the Columbine plot and thought his characters were quite well-drawn. (Throughout the whole book, I kept remembering an insult the main character uses in the first few chapters of the book, that a woman on the phone's "voice sounded fat" -- given "She's Com

Bought it for a trip because I have banned myself from the library because of overdues. I got it because Wally Lamb is so readable, I knew that it would be at least good, not too difficult, not too light. And it was. It's pretty dark- dealing with the Columbine shootings in a way that captivated my interest and understanding of that tragedy- especially as I am now a parent. I just finished this book and it is still spinning in my head. In all honesty, the story is a wee bit predictable, especially to someone who has read I Know This Much Is True as frequently as I have. However, it will still go up on the list of best books I have ever read. The characters are so rich and vivid I dreamed about them every night that I was reading this book.
I am so glad that I have read this book. I am so glad that Wally Lamb finally wrote another book. I highly recommend it.

There's a really good story hidden in this massive tome. I really enjoyed this story of a couple whose life completely changes its trajectory after a traumatic event. However, it does drag quite a bit in the middle as the protagonist discovers a cache of letters written by an ancestor.

A huge, sprawling story that stretches back to the 1800s and revolves around a couple who is directly affected by the Columbine tragedy. It's about the effect of trauma on the people who experience it and those who love them.
