After reading "The Best of Me," I was worried that Nicholas Sparks' writing talent was going downhill. However, he redeemed himself with "The Longest Ride." I was engaged throughout and on the edge of my seat at times. It was a beautifully told love story with a lot of surprises. The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five was that the dialogue between Ira and Ruth felt scripted vs. natural (like the dialogue between Luke and Sophia). I plowed through this one in a little over 2 days. Eh...it wasn't great. First of all, it was very weird how we had two completely different stories. It was totally obvious how they would come together - which they did in the last 10 pages or so.

I didn't feel connected to Sophia and Luke.

Ruth and Ira however did win my heart. Their story was such a simple nice story that it felt like a hug whenever he was talking to her. The whole book should have just been about them! ...more
