An enjoyable, if flawed, account of an old suicide that took place on the grounds of Riverton. Told from the point of view of a lady's maid.

At times it felt like this book was channeling Downton Abbey as the setting, characters, and even some plot elements were so similar. This book was interesting, but my interest drifted, as it often does with audiobooks.

My first Kate Morton book. I listened to this on audio-book and it was one of the best performances I've listened to to date, the narration was fantastic. Loved the story, characters, etc. I just can't shelve this without commenting on the similarities between this and Downton. This having been written first and before the show began, I can't help but hope that the author got some sort of compensation for how many bits of her storyline were used in the show. ...more

interesting story. I bit slow and meandering, but I enjoyed the story and the intrigue and some of the characters.

Actually more like 3.5 stars. I fear that my reading of Morton's The Forgotten Garden first has set the bar so high, none of her other novels can compare...
