I didn't really want to read this. It didn't sound appealing to me at all, but a lot of my regular library teens are way into it and the third one comes out next month, so I figured I should grit my teeth and check this out so I can join in their conversations.

Anyway, I didn't hate it. It was very fast faced & I read it all in one night. I didn't love it, either. It kind of felt like Ally Condie put a bunch of other dystopian novels in a blender and poured them out into Matched. It's kinda like

Really, really enjoyed this book. It opens as seventeen year old Cassia travels to her Match Banquet, where she will find out who the Officials of the Society have chosen as her future husband. She's nervous, but mostely excited. After all, the Officials are always right. And that night, it seems that is in fact the case. She is matched with Xander, one of her best friends whom she's know her whole life.

This is unusual -- there are many cities in many places, it's highly unlikely that those who

On the same day of her 17th birthday, Cassia is off to her matching ceremony, where she will see who she has been paired up with to be her husband. Dressed in a pale green dress, she is thrilled when she is matched with Xander, her best guy friend. Soon Cassia sees her life all set before her: a possible job in sorting, and a future with someone she already has a friendship with. But when Cassia checks her match’s information after the ceremony, Xander’s face does not come up, but for an instant ...more

Condie creates an interesting dystopian society in which everything is chosen for you, from the food you eat, the books you read, the job you'll do and finally the person you'll marry. Cassia is on the eve of being matched to the person she'll marry. She's initially told she'll be matched to her childhood friend but then learns she was initially matched to another boy. Cassia begins the question the decisions made for her in an interesting novel that explores the ideas of freedom versus obedienc ...more

I enjoyed this book a lot more than I expected to, considering it centers around a love triangle. I was rather impressed at the character development I saw in Cassia, plus I loved the world building. Of course, a lot of that world building is like The Giver, but there you are. The ending was a bit of an anti-climax though.

I was going to wait until the trilogy was finished since the second book has so many low ratings, but since the library has the second (But not the first! Bizarre!) I've put m

What Monica said.
Too much moody emoting, too much reading multiple intricate messages in a glance, and not enough action. I wanted to like this but I had to force myself to finish the fist volume and I feel like the sequels will be a waste of time. I did find the Society intriguing but the pace wasn't fast enough to keep my attention. This actually reminded me of why I put Twilight down. Brooding over your every momentary, passing feeling about a crush is fascinating only to the person who is do

A decent teen romance set in a dystopian world not unlike the ones depicted in The Giver and The Hunger Games. I look forward to reading the other two books in the series when they are published.

I think Ms. Condie has created an intriguing world and she builds the tension up nicely to keep the reader interested. I started this book before I went to bed last night and ended up staying awake for an extra hour because I wanted to see what happened next. There are some nice plot turns, some I suspected and some that surprised me. This will definitely please fans of dystopian lit and it has a nice element of romance, so I'd recommend it to fans of paranormal romance, too. Hand it to fans of ...more

Really did not like this. Repetitive, boy focused, and NOTHING HAPPENS for the first 3/4ths of the book. Will not be reading the rest of the series.
