What Members Thought

This is a fantastic read! It is astonishing to see how late 19th century folks responded to same -sex attraction, love, and violence. The categories we so quickly turn to in our own day just patently did not exist. Coe reconstructs the period, Freda's murder, and Alice's trial from public records of the day. A terrific read for those wishing to explore gender construction, same sex marriage, domestic violence, and Victorian life in the American South.
