Watching the 2007 film adaptation of Northanger Abbey was a revelation for me. It's like Henry Tilney's sense of humor finally clicked for me—and now the book is full of unrelenting farcical amusement.

3.5 stars. It's Jane Austen so of course the writing sparkles and there are some great characters. The story, however, is a lot less compelling than her great novels.

While many don't, I loved Nothanger Abbey. I really liked Catherine Morland for being the heroine of her own story. And I love books about women who love books. Perhaps Austen should have left the gothic novels to the Bronte sister and Radclifee, but it is still an excellent read.
