The audio book version of this was really fun to listen to because Neil Gaiman narrates. I do love Neil Gaiman's stories, but Stardust was less my cup of tea than The Graveyard Book or The Ocean at The End of The Lane, which are told with a similar fairy-tale flair, but have a bit more characterization to hold onto.

I want to give this book 3.5 stars, but I'll go with 4 because I have a crush on Neil Gaiman.
There are definitely no surprises in this book -- as soon as a theme or character or conflict is introduced, the reader can guess with near certainty how that theme/character/conflict will tidily wrap up. But the beauty of the book is the journey, not the end. It's sort of fairy tale-like in that way -- you know what's going to happen, but you keep reading eagerly because it's so fun and moral and just ...more
