This book, written by a "shame researcher", urges readers to live wholeheartedly and take risks and cast aside doubt to live our best lives.
Well, easier said than done, Brené.
I liked the message of the book, and I found myself nodding along at various parts. Even though there is an entire chapter on parenting and shame, this book explains a lot about online behavior. I heard Brene Brown interviewed by Krista Tippett on On Being and I knew I had to read this book. I was not disappointed. Brown's research enlightened me on my own behavior as well as the behavior of others. Her writing style is easy and it makes this a quick engaging read.

So, I took a long break from this one about 3/4 through, because it got pretty repetitive and tedious. It was hard from me to step away from the touchy feely vocabulary enough to acknowledge that there was actual research behind it. In the end, I think I might recommend a condensed version, particularly if you're going to listen to this one. ...more
