I really enjoyed this book - it was more thriller than YA romance and there was a plot twist that completely took me by surprise. As much as I read, it's fairly difficult for an author to surprise me, so I love it when I'm blindsided.

Aside from the big surprise, this is the second Oliver book I've read that eloquently portrays the varied ways grief rips and whirls through lives. Vanishing Girls tells the story of two sisters (Nick and Dara) recently involved in a car crash. It was moving to see

before I read this I read some GoodReads reviews b/c I was trying to figure out if it was a "sad" book (I had to read a "sad" book for our monthly Reading Wildly challenge at work), and all the reviews were like "ugh the twist ending is so predictable!" YA suspense novel in the vein of E. Lockhart's We Were Liars. Nicole and Dara have a complicated sibling relationship. Nicole is the good girl and Dara is the wild younger sister. After a horrible car accident a few months ago, Dara isn't speaking to Nicole (and won't even be in the same room as her). Narrated from the viewpoints of Nicole and Dara, this novel ratchets up the suspense as Nicole tries to figure out what is going on with Dara. Tied into the story is the disappearance of a nine yea ...more

This book was good, but not rave-worthy for me. It's also a hard one to discuss without spoiling, but I will do my best.

The good part is, I was interested in the story. I wanted to know what was going on between Nick and her sister, what happened that night of the car crash. I wanted to know how the missing girl tied in to everything. So the interest kept me reading. But it took an awful long time to get to any sort of action. I felt like a lot of the middle of the book really didn't go anywhere

This was awful, not thrilling, not mysterious. It was clear very early on what was going on, it was pretty unbelievable that it could go on for as long as did in the book.

I really wanted to love this book, and I did, up to a point. The big surprise, just made me mad I wanted to throw the book but it was a library book, so I refrained........
